A breast augmentation is a procedure in which the breasts are enlarged through the insertion of implants to enhance the appearance of the breast.
This procedure can:
- Increase the fullness of your breasts
- Balance your figure
- Enhance the projection of your breasts
- Create even proportions between the breasts
When enhancing the breasts it’s all about choosing the right size that is proportional for you, that makes you look the way you want to look.
Mr David Morgan - Specialist Plastic Surgeon
What is breast augmentation?
Our leading surgeon Mr David Morgan has a particular interest in breast surgery and is passionate about the work he does.
What are the benefits of this procedure?
Many women are unhappy with the size and shape of their breasts, whether from a lack of development, or from the changes associated with pregnancy or ageing. At your consultation, which usually lasts 45 minutes, Mr Morgan will discuss with you the various options that are available with regards to implant size and shape, implant location, scar placement, and implant type. Every woman is different and has unique expectations, and we feel confident that following this discussion you will arrive at a decision that is right for you.
Is Mr Morgan experienced in breast augmentations?
Mr Morgan has had many years of experience performing breast augmentations. At your consultation, Mr Morgan will be able to show you before and after photos of his patients, many of who will likely have had the same concerns about their breasts as you. With a passion for this particular treatment, you can feel confident that your surgeon is not only experienced but dedicated to achieving results.
How is it performed?
This type of surgery is performed under general anaesthesia and is either a day surgery or it can involve an overnight stay in hospital. Post-operative pain is usually limited and is well controlled with pain relief tablets. Your wounds will be covered with waterproof dressings so that you may shower as soon as you feel comfortable. You will be asked to wear a soft surgical bra for support and comfort during the first two weeks to allow your breast to heal properly into their new shape, and you should avoid heavy lifting for the first 6 weeks.
How long will I need to recover after a breast augmentation?
Everyone will have a different experience and will recover from their operation differently. Although uncommon, complications can also potentially occur during your breast reconstruction and this may result in a longer recovery time. Generally, most women return to light activities within one week, and you may be able to return to work by the end of the second week. Typically, most patients will recover significantly enough during these two weeks to return to social activity and office-based work. By this time, swelling will largely be resolved and you may potentially start to feel more comfortable with your new, fuller figure. More strenuous physical activity should be limited for a total of 6 weeks.
Who should/should not consider a breast augmentation?
The best results are often achieved in those with a clearly defined concern and realistic expectations about what your breast surgery can achieve. In situations where this is not the case, the outcome from surgery can be disappointing. You should not consider this type of surgery as a response to a personal or professional crisis, or under the encouragement of somebody else. Any decision to undergo surgery needs to be for the right reasons. All surgery entails an element of risk, and you should not make any decision regarding surgery at a time of stress.
Breast augmentation Melbourne
Being healthy and happy with your decision can increase the chances of achieving a breast augmentation treatment that meets your expectations. Smoking, other medical conditions, and being overweight can make surgery unsafe. These and other risks will be discussed with you at the time of your consultation.
